The Kosovo Business Alliance (LBK) has issued an urgent appeal to suspend the Energy Regulatory Office’s (ZRRE) decision on moving businesses to the free electricity market. LBK argues that the decision is unprepared, one-sided, and could result in serious consequences.

In its full statement, LBK states:
“Urgent Request to Suspend ZRRE’s Decision”
“The Kosovo Business Alliance (LBK) urgently calls for a 1-year suspension of the Energy Regulatory Office’s (ZRRE) decision regarding the transition of businesses to the free electricity market. This decision is unprepared, one-sided, and poses major risks, including threatening the stability of the production sector, affecting business liquidity, and endangering the local labor force.”

LBK proposes that during this suspension period, the responsible institutions should conduct a comprehensive economic impact analysis, draft a secure and fair transition plan, and carry out mandatory consultation with the business community.

LBK also invites all institutions, business chambers, and associations to collaborate during what it calls a “critical phase.”
“Protective mechanisms must be established to prevent abuse in the energy market. If implemented at this stage, the decision will cause serious damage to the private sector, increase operating costs, erode investor confidence in Kosovo’s business climate, and threaten both local production and access to EU markets.”

“The voice of businesses must be heard equally. Businesses need support! LBK is committed to strongly protecting the interests of our producers, businesses, and members, and to advancing toward a functional, sustainable, and inclusive economy. Yes to a free market – but only with preparation and responsibility.”
