Olivier Guerot, France’s Ambassador to Kosovo, has called on Kosovo’s political leaders to find a path towards compromise and ensure the functional operation of state institutions.

During an official reception in Kosovo celebrating France’s National Day, attended by representatives of Kosovar institutions and the international community, Ambassador Guerot emphasized that a functional Assembly and a Government supported by it are essential for Kosovo to sign and ratify international agreements in its interest.

“I am very pleased and proud of the work done by the French Development Agency (AFD), which, in its 18 months in Kosovo, has already developed several very ambitious projects,” Guerot stated. He noted the signing of two memoranda of understanding between AFD and ministries, expressing anticipation for the finalization of this work, which amounts to tens of millions of euros.

Guerot then delivered a direct message to Kosovo’s political leaders: “This brings me to my second message, addressed with the utmost respect to the political leaders of Kosovo, this friendly country of France. To sign and ratify these agreements, we need an assembly and we need a government supported by this assembly. Friendly governments with Kosovo, including the French government, need a partner to move forward and to support Kosovo on its path towards European integration.”

He further underscored that European integration necessitates the EU-facilitated dialogue. “Allow me to call on all political leaders in this country, without exception, regardless of their party or the community they represent. A call for them to find their way towards compromise, to find their way out of the deadlock with which no voter is satisfied. A call for them to find ways to ensure the comprehensive functioning of Kosovo’s institutions,” Guerot declared.

The Ambassador affirmed that France would continue to stand by Kosovo.

During the festive event, Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani delivered a video message, greeting the French people and recalling the universal values of July 14th. Meanwhile, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti reiterated Kosovo’s commitment to EU membership.
