During his visit to Tirana today, French President Emmanuel Macron commented on the frozen situation of the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, expressing hope that this process will resume in the near future.

In his statement to the media, Macron emphasized that the European Union has a legitimate role in promoting progress and that it is time to overcome the current deadlock.

“The roadmap is very clear, and we have spent a lot of time on the dialogue between Belgrade and Prishtina. The EU is legitimate in demanding concrete progress on political issues regarding municipal elections, which have not been satisfactory, and security. This is well known; there is nothing new. I believe that urgency does not mean loss of credibility. We need to move beyond this standoff that is blocking the situation. I hope that in the coming weeks we will resume dialogue both with Prishtina and Belgrade because each country has faced political and social difficulties,” Macron said.

He added that a lot of time has passed since the parties last sat seriously at the negotiating table and stressed the importance that this process should not remain frozen.
