France’s Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced his resignation on Monday, just a few hours after presenting his cabinet — only 26 days after being appointed to the position following the resignation of François Bayrou.
The Élysée Palace confirmed that Lecornu met with President Emmanuel Macron for about an hour before formally submitting his resignation, Reuters reports.
His resignation comes amid strong backlash over the composition of the new cabinet, with several parties in the National Assembly threatening to bring it down through a vote of no confidence.
