Paris prosecutors have identified the suspects behind the placement of pig heads outside at least nine mosques in and around the French capital. According to the investigation, the act was carried out by foreign nationals driving a vehicle with Serbian license plates.

Police say the suspects likely crossed the border using a Croatian phone number. The investigation determined that the pig heads were deliberately placed to incite unrest, and the perpetrators fled the country immediately after.

A Normandy livestock farmer informed investigators that two men purchased twelve pig heads from him, describing their vehicle, which was registered in Serbia. Surveillance footage later confirmed that the same car arrived in Paris the day before the incident.

Authorities discovered that the suspects were likely using a Croatian phone number, which had been tracked crossing the Franco-Belgian border yesterday morning after the crime took place, according to Croatian media.

French officials condemned the attack and pledged support for the country’s Muslim population, which is the largest in Europe, with over 6 million Muslims.

Paris Police Chief Laurent Nunez said he could not rule out foreign interference aimed at destabilizing France during its political and fiscal crisis. In the past, France has accused Russia of spreading division, and in May, three Serbians with alleged ties to a “foreign power” were arrested after synagogues and a Holocaust memorial were vandalized.
