French researcher Serge Métais has argued that Dick Marty’s failure to appear before prosecutor Clint Williamson for questioning was a key factor leading to the establishment of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.

In the continuation of an interview with the newspaper Epoka e Re, Métais alleged that Russian intelligence services had an interest in preventing Marty from cooperating with Williamson.

According to Métais, had Marty appeared before the Special Investigative Task Force, he would have been required to explain the sources behind his allegations concerning an alleged detention facility for Serbian prisoners and a clinic in Fushë-Krujë, Albania, where human organ trafficking was claimed to have taken place.

Métais said Marty had not presented witnesses and that his information sources could not be independently verified.

“The inability to compel Dick Marty to appear is a key point in explaining why the Specialist Chambers were established,” Métais said.

The French researcher argued that if Marty had testified before the task force, his allegations would have been examined further and, in his interpretation, the Specialist Chambers might not have been created.

Métais linked the issue to 2015, when the legal framework for the Specialist Chambers was established with a mandate to address allegations of serious crimes associated with Marty’s report.

He also claimed that, at the time, the investigation into alleged organ trafficking lacked evidence.

Métais’s statements represent his interpretation of the circumstances surrounding the establishment of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers. His claims regarding Russian intelligence involvement and the alleged absence of evidence were not independently substantiated in the material provided.
