The French Minister of Transport has been accused of misuse of public funds.
The French Special Financial Prosecutor has launched a preliminary investigation into Minister Philippe Tabarot at a time when Prime Minister François Bayrou is under increasing pressure as he attempts to pass the budget amid numerous parliamentary objections.
The investigation concerns the position that Tabarot held between 2018 and 2020 in the public interest group for tourism and culture (GIP) and in communications regarding the municipality of Le Cannet in the south of France.
At that time, Le Cannet was led by his sister, Michele Tabarot, a member of the conservative Republican Party.
