The first—and potentially only—presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris has concluded. It was 90 minutes of action-packed discussion—here’s what you need to know.

The debate began with both candidates shaking hands as Kamala Harris took the stage and was introduced to Trump (it was their first meeting).

Initially focusing on policy, the debate took a turn when Harris made a sharp comment about Trump’s rallies, saying people left early due to boredom and exhaustion. Trump launched into a vigorous defense of his rally attendance. This moment shifted the tone of the debate; both candidates, but especially Trump, became more heated afterward.

Trump attacked Harris on immigration and the border, questioning why she hadn’t achieved more political goals during her time with the Biden administration.

Harris criticized the former president for the highly debated abortion issue in America and condemned him for the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, stating that Trump was “weak and wrong on national security and foreign policy.”

Immediately after the debate, pop superstar Taylor Swift supported Kamala Harris in an Instagram post, calling Harris a “steadfast, talented leader.”
