A suspect is in custody following a shooting at Florida State University (FSU) that left at least six people hospitalized, including one in critical condition, according to sources speaking to the Associated Press.

The incident occurred on Thursday at the university’s main campus in Tallahassee, prompting a massive law enforcement response. Multiple fire trucks, ambulances, and police vehicles from various agencies rushed to the scene after the university issued an active shooter alert.

The extent of the injuries remains unclear, but a spokesperson for Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare confirmed that one victim is in critical condition, while several others are in serious condition.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and confusion as students ran for cover.
Ryan Cedergren, a 21-year-old student, said he and around 30 others hid in the bowling alley on the lower floor of the student union after seeing students fleeing from a nearby bar.

“At that point, it was a matter of survival,” Cedergren said.

About 15 minutes later, university police escorted them safely out of the building.

Another student, Joshua Sirmans, 20, said he was in the main library when the active shooter alarm sounded. Law enforcement officers entered the building and led students out with their hands above their heads, Sirmans reported.

The U.S. Department of Justice is now coordinating with FBI agents on the ground, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed in a social media post.

Authorities have not released additional details about the suspect or their motives. The investigation is ongoing, and officials are expected to provide updates in the coming hours.
