Liverpool Football Club has decided to cancel pre-season tests for a small number of first-team players following the tragic news of the death of forward Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva.
The tests were scheduled for Friday at the club’s training center in Kirkby, as part of the squad’s return after the summer break. However, the decision was made for players to return in a phased manner starting Monday, to give the team time to cope with their grief and honor the memory of their teammate.
Funeral Ceremony in Gondomar
The funeral ceremony for Jota and his brother will be held tomorrow in Gondomar, on the outskirts of Porto.
According to reports, Diogo Jota and his younger brother, who was also a professional footballer, lost their lives in a tragic car accident in the early hours of Thursday. They were traveling towards the port of Santander, where Jota had planned to return by ferry to the United Kingdom to begin preparations for the new season. This choice was made on medical advice, as Jota had been advised to avoid flights after a minor health intervention.
The incident has deeply shocked not only the club but the entire football community, which has expressed condolences and solidarity with the family and relatives of the two brothers.
