Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani announced that Kosovo and the United States are close to finalizing an agreement for a “strategic dialogue” between the two nations. This was revealed following a meeting in Pristina with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard R. Verma.

Xhavit Gashi, former Kosovo attaché to the U.S., described Kosovo as a small but trusted partner in the eyes of the United States. He acknowledged that while there have been difficult periods in bilateral relations, especially in recent years, the core of U.S. policy toward Kosovo has not changed.

“The Trump doctrine is different, but I still believe we should not fear that U.S. policy toward Kosovo will drastically change. Even this strategic dialogue could be reformulated by a new administration. There is no risk of a fundamental shift. We know from the Washington Agreement that the Trump administration, although different, still shared a similar approach with previous administrations, albeit with more transactional changes,” said Gashi in an interview with Dukagjini’s FIVE.

Gashi continued, emphasizing the ongoing strong ties between Kosovo and the U.S., despite challenges.
“We continue to be treated as a small but reliable partner. It may have been slightly damaged, but it has not been destroyed. Fortunately, despite some opportunities for it to be harmed, with visits and statements from the U.S. administration, we see that it has not been damaged to the extent that would harm our Kosovo-U.S. partnership.”
