The Speaker of the Assembly of North Macedonia, Afrim Gashi, discussed political developments in the country concerning the state’s approach to Albanians and the functioning of the new government coalition between VMRO-DPMNE and the Albanian party coalition “VLEN” during an appearance on “Public Square” with Ditmir Bushati.

Gashi emphasized that the goal of Albanians in North Macedonia is to achieve equality and stated that this issue will need to be reopened in the future. He mentioned that efforts are currently underway to persuade both the ruling and opposition Macedonian parties that equality does not harm anyone.

“The goal of Albanians in North Macedonia has always been to achieve equality in this state. This issue will need to be reopened in the future, and we are working to convince our Macedonian partners, both in government and opposition, that equality in the country benefits everyone, and does not harm anyone,” Gashi said.

Regarding media reports concerning the law on official languages and the use of Albanian, Gashi noted that nothing has changed substantially. “Nothing has changed in a substantial way, whether regarding the use of the language or national equality,” Gashi stated.
