In one of the deadliest single-family incidents in recent months, an Israeli airstrike on the home of Dr. Ala al-Najjar in Kan Younis killed nine of her ten children. Her husband and one surviving child were severely injured, the local hospital confirmed.
Dr. al-Najjar, a physician working at the hospital in Kan Younis, was on duty at the time of the strike. Her home was hit just minutes after her husband returned from driving her to work.
British Surgeon Operates on Survivor
British surgeon Graham Groom, currently volunteering at the hospital, told the BBC he had operated on the eleven-year-old surviving boy, who remains in critical condition.
A harrowing video, verified by the BBC and shared by Gaza’s Ministry of Health, shows the charred remains of children’s bodies being pulled from the rubble.
The oldest child killed was 12, and the youngest only 3 years old. Two children — a 7-month-old baby and a 2-year-old — are still missing under the ruins, believed to be dead.
Israel’s Response and Civilian Toll
The Israeli military confirmed that an airstrike targeted “multiple suspects” in Kan Younis and stated that allegations of civilian casualties are being reviewed.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s Ministry of Health reported that at least 74 civilians were killed across various Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours alone.
This strike has drawn renewed scrutiny over the growing civilian toll in Gaza amid ongoing hostilities.
