Twelve people, including eight waiting for humanitarian aid, were killed today in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian territory devastated by over 20 months of war, according to the Gaza Civil Defense.
Mahmud Basal, a Civil Defense spokesperson, told Agence France-Presse that eight people were killed and 15 wounded while waiting for aid distribution. Five of the fatalities occurred near the Netzarim intersection in the central Gaza Strip, Basal added.
Thousands of people daily travel to various locations within the besieged territory, hoping to receive food.
Israel imposed a humanitarian blockade on Gaza in early March, easing it partially in late May, but there remains a severe shortage of food, medicine, and other essential supplies.
A series of deadly incidents has occurred since aid centers managed by the GHF, an organization with non-transparent funding supported by the U.S. and Israel, opened in Gaza on May 27. The UN refuses to cooperate with this organization due to doubts about its procedures and neutrality.
