A tragic event struck Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Hospital, who had left his home on Friday to begin his work shift.

The following day, he was informed that six members of his family had been killed in an Israeli airstrike that hit their home in the Al-Shati refugee camp, located in the western part of Gaza City, CNN reported.

“This is the family home where we live. My brother, two of my brother’s sons, my nephew’s wife, and two of their children were martyred,” Dr. Abu Salmiya said.

The airstrike also injured seven other people, including his sister, niece, and nephews. The home, which had housed generations of his family, was completely destroyed.

The attack occurred amid Israel’s intensified military operations in Gaza City, which have led to a mass displacement of civilians and sparked protests worldwide calling for an end to the offensive.
