General Wesley Clark, the former U.S. military commander who led the 78-day NATO campaign against Serbian forces committing genocide against Kosovo Albanians, has been officially confirmed as a defense witness for former President Hashim Thaçi at The Hague.

Clark is considered the most significant witness the defense has presented so far to testify in favor of Thaçi, who led the political direction of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK) during the conflict.

He is the fifth defense witness in the trial of former UÇK leaders. The sequence of previous testimonies includes:

  1. James Rubin – former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State during the Kosovo war.
  2. Paul Williams – adviser to the Kosovo delegation at Rambouillet.
  3. John Duncan – former adviser to Wesley Clark.
  4. Jock Covey – Deputy Administrator of Kosovo from 1999 to 2001.

Clark’s testimony is expected to provide crucial context on the NATO intervention and the political-military environment in which the UÇK operated, highlighting the defense’s narrative of Thaçi’s leadership role during the war.
