The 2025 season of the “Hiking with Ambassadors” series kicked off on Saturday with a journey to the peak of Konjushka, located at an altitude of 2,577 meters in the Sharr Mountains.

The news was announced by the German Embassy in Kosovo, which highlighted that German Ambassador Jorn Rohde took part in the hike, along with over 50 hikers, including members of the German Mountain Division currently serving under NATO’s KFOR mission in Kosovo.

“This was an activity with over 50 hikers, including members of the German Army’s Mountain Division serving in KFOR. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet and connect with the soldiers,” said Ambassador Rohde.

He also emphasized that the group was honored to be guided by renowned Kosovar mountaineer Uta Ibrahimi, who recently completed her mission of summiting all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters, including Kangchenjunga – the third highest mountain in the world.

“Together, we pushed forward, triumphing through thick fog and clouds. But upon reaching Konjushka Lake, near the summit, a decision was made to turn back for safety. The mountain always wins, and ensuring the group’s well-being was the top priority,” the announcement said.

In the end, the embassy noted that the group had planned to meet at the summit with representatives from the German Embassy in Skopje, but due to weather conditions, this was not possible.

“Great respect to Ambassador Drexler for making it to the summit! Looking ahead, we’re excited for the next hike – with better weather and full summit success! See you on the trail!” the embassy’s statement concluded.
