German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has expressed skepticism about the likelihood that the United States and Israel will succeed in achieving regime change in Iran.

Speaking at a conference organized by Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Merz said he is not convinced that current actions by United States and Israel will lead to success.

“I am simply not convinced that what is happening now will achieve results. One month later, we see no signs of de-escalation,” he stated.

Merz also questioned whether regime change should even be the objective, warning that such strategies often end poorly. He referenced the experience of the War in Afghanistan as an example of unsuccessful long-term intervention.

Despite his concerns, the German leader أكد that Germany would be willing to contribute to efforts ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, but only after the conflict has ended.
