Germany’s new Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, has confirmed that Western allies are no longer placing restrictions on the range of weapons delivered to Ukraine, Rks News reports, citing statements made during a forum hosted by German broadcaster WDR.
“There are no longer any restrictions on the range of weapons sent to Ukraine – not from the UK, not from France, not from us. There are no restrictions from the U.S. either,” said Merz, according to the Guardian.
This marks a significant policy shift, allowing Ukraine to now defend itself by striking military targets inside Russian territory, something that had previously been discouraged due to concerns over escalating the conflict.
It’s worth noting that the U.S. recently authorized Ukraine to use long-range ballistic missiles, signaling a broader change in Western military support strategies for Kyiv.
