The German Embassy in Kosovo has provided details about the visit of Michael Reiffenstuel, Director for the Western Balkans, Turkey, the Council of Europe, and the OSCE at Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, on August 10–11, 2025.
During his stay, Reiffenstuel met with Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani, Prime Minister Albin Kurti — referred to by the embassy as the “outgoing prime minister” — as well as opposition leaders Memli Krasniqi (PDK) and Lumir Abdixhiku (LDK). He also held talks with representatives of Kosovo Serb parties, civil society organizations, and the KFOR commander.
Reiffenstuel called for the full implementation of the Constitutional Court’s ruling as the only way to end the ongoing political blockade.
“In his meetings with Kosovo’s political actors, he underlined the need to fully respect and implement the recent Constitutional Court decision to bring an end to the political blockade. He also reiterated our expectation that all parties meeting the criteria should be allowed to participate in the upcoming local elections,” the statement said.
The embassy also emphasized Germany’s strong support for EU Special Representative Peter Sörensen in advancing the EU-facilitated Dialogue on Normalization between Kosovo and Serbia.
“Mr. Reiffenstuel reaffirmed Germany’s full support for EU Special Representative Peter Sörensen’s efforts to push forward the EU-facilitated Dialogue on Normalization. Constructive engagement by Kosovo is essential for the country’s EU integration — a process Germany strongly supports,” the statement concluded.
