During his first official visit to Kyiv since taking office, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul declared that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not interested in negotiations but in Ukraine’s complete surrender, RKS News reports.
Wadephul emphasized that Russia is intensifying its attacks and bombings, aiming to weaken international support and gain control at any cost—even at the expense of thousands of lives.
“Putin does not want peace or talks—he wants Ukraine to capitulate,” Wadephul stated.
He underscored that Ukraine’s freedom and sovereignty remain a top priority for Germany’s foreign and security policy.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky renewed his calls for enhanced air defense systems from the United States and other Western allies following massive Russian drone and missile attacks on June 29.
Germany continues to be Ukraine’s main European supporter, providing both military and material aid to help resist Russian forces.
