German Major General Christian Freuding has issued an alarming warning: Russia intends to launch up to 2,000 drones simultaneously into Ukraine.
Russia’s Expanding Drone Production and “Intelligent Countermeasures”
Freuding made these comments on the Bundeswehr’s “Nachgefragt” podcast Saturday evening. He stated that Russia is significantly expanding its drone production capacity to carry out massive attacks on Ukrainian territory.
The General emphasized the urgent need for “intelligent countermeasures.” He explained that using conventional means, specifically Patriot air defense missiles, is not a logical response to Shahed drones, which cost €30,000-€50,000, while a single Patriot missile costs over €5 million.
According to Freuding’s assessment, Ukraine needs low-cost solutions against drones costing €2,000-€4,000 to effectively repel large-scale attacks.
Strikes Deep into Russia and China’s Role
Freuding also mentioned that strikes deep within Russian territory—targeting military aircraft, airports, and defense factories—are another necessary response to the drone threat.
He further highlighted that China has ceased supplying drone parts to Ukraine and now exports exclusively to Russia. “Right now, the situation is that China is actually only exporting to Russia, while Ukraine has been excluded from this market,” he stated.
