Albanians in Germany are seeking a change to citizenship laws.
Their request has been directed to Chancellor Olaf Scholz through the Organization of Albanian Academics and Students in Hamburg.
The diaspora is demanding the removal of Serbian citizenship for Kosovars in the Federal Republic of Germany.
In a letter, this organization states that this practice continues to be applied even after NATO’s intervention in the Kosovo war and the declaration of Kosovo’s independence in 2008.
“It is unacceptable for Kosovo citizens to continue being registered with Serbian citizenship, despite the fact that Germany has recognized Kosovo’s independence since 2008. This situation creates unjust disparities in the treatment of citizens,” the letter states.
The German government has not confirmed the receipt of this letter.
It is also noted that there are 565,000 Kosovar citizens of Albanian descent in Germany, who are well integrated and strongly identify with the Federal Republic of Germany.
