German MP: Resumption of Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue After Elections, Patience Running Out

The work of the newly appointed European Commission could serve as an accelerator for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.

German Bundestag member Thomas Hacker believes that until then, there will be no significant movement on this front.

“We are in a transitional period for the European Commission, as the current commission is in its final hours. We will have a new commissioner for enlargement, a woman from Slovenia who has knowledge of the region, and Miroslav Lajčák will no longer lead the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade. This will give us an opportunity for a fresh start,” he told Top Channel.

He added that the resumption of the dialogue will only take place after the formation of a new government in Kosovo.

“There will be elections in Kosovo, and until then, not much can be done. But after the elections, with the new commission, the process must be reinforced, and it must be made clear that the agreements reached must be implemented by both parties,” Hacker emphasized.

Regarding the non-implementation of agreements by both sides in normalizing relations, the German MP said that patience is running out.

“In fact, after the elections in Kosovo and the formation of the new government, patience will run out for both sides. Serbia cannot say ‘we will sign the agreement’ and then later say ‘we will not sign it’ and then claim it is unconstitutional,” Hacker concluded.
