Just six weeks after the parliamentary elections in Germany, the final agreement has been reached for the formation of a new governing coalition. The CDU/CSU and SPD parties have completed their negotiations and agreed to co-govern for the next four years. Both parties have also approved a joint government program for the upcoming period.
According to Deutsche Welle journalist Bahri Cani, “The agreement for the governing coalition in Germany has finally been reached. After a long period of negotiations, the parties have agreed on the division of positions and the drafting of the new government program.”
“The SPD will take two key positions: the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Defense, while the CDU/CSU Union parties will hold the position of Chancellor, led by Friedrich Merz, as well as the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he added.
