Germany will continue border controls for an additional six months after March 15, when the current period was set to end.

This decision comes due to the current security situation, stated German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt in the Monday (16.02.2026) edition of Bild, as reported by Albinfo.

According to reports, the new announcement is also being sent to the European Commission, the newspaper cited sources within Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s government.

“We are extending border controls with our neighboring countries—these controls are part of the reorganization of our migration policy in Germany,” Dobrindt said.
