German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that Germany will not authorize any export of military equipment that could be used in the Gaza Strip, for an indefinite period.

The decision comes in response to Israel’s plan to expand military operations in Gaza, with Merz emphasizing Germany’s deep concern over the humanitarian situation in the area.

“With the planned offensive, the Israeli government holds even greater responsibility than before for their supply,” Merz stated, adding:
“It must facilitate full access for humanitarian supplies, including for UN organizations and other NGOs. After the necessary steps taken in recent days, Israel must continue to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.”

The German Chancellor also urged Israel not to take further steps toward annexing the West Bank.

This position comes as Israel’s security cabinet approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to take full control of Gaza City—a move that has sparked major international concerns over further escalation of the conflict and rising civilian casualties.
