Germany’s Defense Minister, Boris Pistorius, announced that the German government is preparing a new military aid package for Ukraine this year, as Russia continues to intensify its attacks. Speaking alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on June 12, Pistorius revealed that Germany will approve an additional €1.9 billion in military support.
While the package is not yet finalized, Pistorius said work is underway and the funds will become available “in the coming weeks once Parliament makes its decision.” The new funding will bring Germany’s total military assistance to Ukraine for 2025 to around €9 billion. So far, Berlin has already provided nearly €7 billion.
The additional financial support will also go toward a German-backed plan to help Ukraine manufacture its own long-range weapons, Pistorius stated. Last month, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the two countries would jointly develop long-range weapons systems.
Germany has long faced pressure to supply Ukraine with weapons capable of striking deep inside Russian territory — support that some other Western allies have already provided.
