Defense Minister Ejup Maqedonci has stated that the group led by chief terrorist Millan Radojiciq continues to pose a threat to the Republic of Kosovo. According to him, their aim is to escalate tensions in the four northern municipalities.
The Defense Minister announced that Germany will soon send another donation worth 7 million euros to enhance military capacities.
One year after the escalation of tensions in the four northern municipalities, where Serbian protesters attacked journalists, police, and KFOR members, Maqedonci stated that many illegal routes used for preparing attacks against the republic have been closed.
On September 24 in Banjska, Zvečan, a Serbian paramilitary group led by the former vice-president of the Serbian List, chief terrorist Millan Radojiciq, attacked the Kosovo Police.
Concerns that Radojiciq’s group is preparing once again to incite tensions have been raised by Defense Minister Ejup Maqedonci.
Minister Maqedonci said that the group’s aim is the annexation of the four northern municipalities.
“We believe this group continuously poses a threat to the security of the Republic of Kosovo. This has been stated several times by the Kosovo Police, who have received information about the continuation of preparations by such groups in Serbia, aiming to carry out actions in our country’s four northern municipalities to destabilize the situation and undermine the constitutional order and sovereignty of our country,” declared Defense Minister Ejup Maqedonci.
Following a donation two months ago from Germany to the Kosovo Security Force, Maqedonci confirmed on television that an additional 7 million euros in aid for tactical military equipment has been allocated.
“Germany is continuing with other donations. Soon, we will receive an approximately 7 million euro donation from Germany, and also from other countries besides the aspect of purchasing cooperation. They support the development of Kosovo’s defense capabilities in various weapon systems, equipment, and tactical vehicles,” expressed Minister Maqedonci.
Although one year has passed since the tensions raised by Serbian protesters in the four northern municipalities, where journalists, police, and KFOR members were attacked, the defense minister said that illegal routes used by terrorist groups have been closed so far.
“Today, the situation is completely different. We have established the sovereignty of law and order. Many routes used not only for smuggling but also for preparing attacks, such as the September 24 attack, have been cut off, and the state administration functions normally in that part of our country’s territory,” he said.
On May 29, 2023, a group of Serbs protested near the municipal building in Zvečan, after the mayor of this municipality, as well as the mayors of three others – Leposavić, Zvečan, and Zubin Potok – entered the municipal buildings in the northern municipalities to carry out their functions.
