The German government is seriously considering imposing sanctions on Israel due to the worsening humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that a final decision could be made in the coming days, once a full report is received from Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who is currently on an official visit to the Middle East to assess conditions on the ground.

“The situation in Gaza is unacceptable,” Merz stated at a press conference in Berlin. He stressed that Germany cannot remain indifferent to the suffering of Palestinian civilians and that every friend of Israel has a responsibility to speak out when humanitarian standards are violated.

Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul went even further, warning that if the situation continues to deteriorate without significant progress to support the civilian population, Israel risks facing international isolation. He underlined that the international community cannot turn a blind eye to the escalating crisis.
