Germany has announced that it will send two additional Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine, following an agreement with the United States that allows Berlin to be first in line to receive the latest systems in exchange for its support to Kyiv.
“Thanks to the U.S. commitment, Germany can initially support Ukraine with missile launchers and later with additional Patriot system components,” said German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in a statement.
The first Patriot systems will be delivered in the coming days, while the remaining parts are expected to be handed over within the next two to three months, Reuters reports.
In return, Berlin will receive new Patriot systems from the United States on an accelerated schedule, for which Germany is self-financing.
