German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has called on Chinese President Xi Jinping to support efforts toward achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine.
During their first phone call since Merz took office last month, the German Chancellor informed Xi about “the joint efforts of Europe and the EU to secure a swift ceasefire in Ukraine” and urged China to “support these efforts.”
Meanwhile, the Chinese side emphasized the importance of “stable and predictable relations” between the two countries. President Xi stated that “the world is currently undergoing accelerated changes not seen in a century, with a mix of transformations and chaos in the international landscape.”
It is reported that both leaders also discussed the need for “fair competition” in economic relations between Germany and China.
