German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Sunday called on Iran to return to the negotiating table without delay following the recent US airstrikes.
“Iran must immediately enter into negotiations with the U.S. and Israel and find a diplomatic solution to the conflict,” Merz stated, according to a declaration from his spokesperson Stefan Kornelius.
The German government assesses that “large parts of Iran’s nuclear program have been damaged by the airstrikes,” Kornelius added.
This appeal comes as tensions surge across the Middle East after what US President Donald Trump described as a “historic military success” and amidst fears that Iranian retaliation could spark a wider regional war.
