The Gërmia swimming pool in Pristina officially opened its doors to the public today, July 8, after a short delay caused by water shortages due to severe drought affecting the natural springs in the area.

Medina Krasniqi-Mushica, head of the pool department, told Ekonomia Online that the facility is clean, safe, and fully ready to welcome citizens. Entry prices remain unchanged from previous years: €4 for adults and €2 for children on weekdays, while weekend prices are €5 for adults. Pensioners and children under the age of six can enter free of charge.

“Today we opened the pool for the citizens of Pristina. We are very happy to have secured a clean, relaxing, and safe environment,” said Krasniqi-Mushica. “Our only challenge was filling the pool due to the drought, but everything else went smoothly. Prices are the same as previous years, and we believe they are quite affordable. We invite everyone to come cool off in this beautiful setting surrounded by the mountains of Gërmia, with fresh air and refreshing water.”

Mërgim Mula, general manager of the pool, emphasized the significant improvements made to the infrastructure and hygiene standards, despite the delayed opening.

“Compared to previous years, we are opening late this season due to climate conditions and a reduced water supply, which comes from mountain springs. However, we’ve made considerable improvements in terms of infrastructure, hygiene, and service points,” Mula stated. “This year’s season is one of the best-prepared in recent memory. Food and beverage vendors operate at city-standard prices, and cleanliness has been a top priority.”

Among the first visitors was Shefki Zhitia, a local resident, who expressed satisfaction with the pool conditions and praised the city’s decision to offer free access to pensioners.

“It’s great, although it opened a bit late—we were all eagerly waiting. This is the only pool we have in Pristina. Better late than never! The hygiene is good, everything looks clean. If the quality remains the same throughout the season, it will be a great summer. And for us pensioners, it’s free—I truly appreciate that,” said Zhitia.

With the summer heat intensifying, the Gërmia pool is expected to attract large numbers of visitors in the coming weeks.
