At the United Nations Security Council meeting, Kosovo’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Donika Gërvalla, delivered a strong address, warning member states not to remain passive in the face of Serbia’s aggressive ambitions.
“Our warning is clear: do not wait too long, do not risk another Balkan war by focusing on the wrong questions instead of dealing with the real danger,” Gërvalla stated.
She emphasized that Kosovo is moving firmly toward Euro-Atlantic integration, while Serbia is heading in the opposite direction — toward Russia.
Responding to Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Gjurić, who referred to Kosovo as “Kosovo and Metohija,” Gërvalla replied:
“There is no ‘Kosovo and Metohija.’ That expression represents Serbia’s hegemonic ambitions toward Kosovo. It’s the old language of Milošević and his followers. Kosovo is a Western democracy. Support for NATO and the U.S. stands at 99%. We are one of the most pro-NATO and pro-U.S. countries in the world — because they protected us from genocide.”
Gërvalla also displayed a photo of a mural in Serbia that reads “When the army returns to Kosovo”, describing it as a clear symbol of Serbia’s ongoing threat.
“It doesn’t say ‘if’, it says ‘when’. They’re not hiding their intentions. We want real dialogue, not Vučić’s deception. His strategy toward the EU is war — leading to military aggression,” she declared.
The minister urged the international community to stop Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, recalling the 2023 Banjska attack:
“Banjska was not an incident. It was an open act of aggression by the Serbian state against the Republic of Kosovo. Everyone knows who was behind it.”
Finally, Gërvalla called for the closure of the UNMIK mission, saying it “no longer serves its purpose.”
