Justice Minister Donika Gërvalla has emphasized that Kosovo’s accession to the Council of Europe is not merely an aspiration but a necessity. She made the remarks during a meeting with Mary Ann Hennessey, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Kosovo.

Gërvalla highlighted Kosovo’s commitment to the rule of law and the protection of human rights. “This commitment is not limited to statements. Through the operationalization of the Bureau for the Confiscation of Unjustified Assets, a key tool in the fight against corruption, money laundering, and organized crime, we ensure that no one is above the law. Additionally, the implementation of the Rule of Law Strategy aims to strengthen institutions and increase public trust,” she said.

She also stressed that addressing domestic violence, violence against women, and gender-based violence remains an uncompromising priority requiring coordinated institutional action.

“Kosovo not only meets the standards of the Council of Europe but stands as a living testament to the values this organization protects. For this reason, our country’s rightful place in the Council of Europe should no longer be delayed,” Gërvalla concluded.
