Kosovo’s Acting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla, has departed for Luxembourg to participate in the official ceremony marking the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Schengen Agreement.

Minister Gërvalla is attending at the invitation of Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Xavier Bettel.

The ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in Schengen, a symbolically significant location in European history where the foundations for free movement between European states were laid four decades ago. The event will be attended by high-level representatives from the European Union, numerous European states, Western Balkan countries, and other international institutions, in the presence of His Royal Highness, Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg.

As part of this event, the European Schengen Museum and the restored ship “Princesse Marie-Astrid Europa” will be inaugurated. The latter is the very vessel where the historic agreement that marked the beginning of the free movement area within Europe was signed in 1985.

The participation of Minister Gërvalla in this jubilee anniversary underscores the Republic of Kosovo’s commitment to European values, European integration, and cross-border cooperation, which the Schengen Agreement fundamentally represents.
