Dubrovnik, June 29, 2024 – Kosovo’s Foreign Minister, Donika Gërvalla-Schwaz, met with her Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, at the annual Dubrovnik Forum. The meeting, significant for both nations, highlighted the urgent need for Armenia to recognize Kosovo, a move seen as imperative for fostering future alliances.

Despite the fact that Armenia has not yet recognized Kosovo, the meeting between Gërvalla and Mirzoyan was productive, focusing on regional security issues and the stability of both the South Caucasus and the Balkans. The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement emphasizing Armenia’s commitment to the peace agenda, particularly its efforts to normalize relations with neighboring countries.

“Referring to Armenia’s commitment to the peace agenda, Minister Mirzoyan emphasized efforts to normalize relations with neighbors. In particular, the political will shown by Armenia to sign the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan and to create sustainable bases for development instead of military confrontations in the South Caucasus was highlighted,” the statement read.

The Dubrovnik Forum, an annual conference bringing together ministers and high-level political figures from around the globe, serves as a platform for discussing current issues on the global political agenda. This year’s forum provided an opportunity for Kosovo to share its experiences and perspectives.

In an announcement from Kosovo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated that Minister Gërvalla would present the positions of the Republic of Kosovo regarding the challenges of peace and stability in Europe. She would also share Kosovo’s experiences with Euro-Atlantic integration processes, deep reforms in the rule of law, raising democratic standards, and economic development.

Recognition of Kosovo by Armenia: A Path to Future Alliances

The recognition of Kosovo by Armenia is not just a diplomatic formality but a crucial step toward building a stronger alliance between the two nations. Such recognition would signify a shared commitment to peace, stability, and mutual development. It is imperative that Armenia takes this step to bring the countries together as allies in the future, fostering cooperation and trust in the region.

As both nations navigate the complex dynamics of regional politics, the recognition of Kosovo would pave the way for a more collaborative and stable relationship, benefiting both the South Caucasus and the Balkans.
