Gërvalla sends a note of protest to North Macedonia after the incident with Osmani

Kosovo’s Foreign Minister, Donika Gërvalla, has announced that she has sent a formal protest note to North Macedonia regarding the incident that occurred last night involving President Vjosa Osmani. At Skopje Airport, security attempted to confiscate and screen President Osmani’s personal phone.

The ministry has requested that Macedonian authorities take immediate action to investigate the incident and ensure that such events do not occur in the future.

“Minister Gërvalla has submitted a protest note to the authorities of North Macedonia, demanding an immediate and comprehensive explanation for this incident. Additionally, it has been requested that Macedonian authorities take swift measures to investigate the case and ensure that such events do not happen again,” the statement reads.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Osmani faced inappropriate and illegal treatment from airport security personnel.

“Regarding the incident yesterday at Skopje Airport, where President of the Republic of Kosovo, H.E. Dr. Vjosa Osmani, was subjected to inappropriate and unlawful treatment by airport security personnel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo has taken immediate steps by requesting official information and details of the case from the Embassy of North Macedonia in Kosovo,” the statement continues.

The ministry further revealed that Gërvalla met with the Ambassador of North Macedonia to Kosovo immediately after the incident last night and again today, seeking clarification on the matter.

“Additionally, Minister Gërvalla held a meeting today with North Macedonia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Arben Fetai, to discuss the incident and the need for prompt institutional action. As part of the measures taken, Minister Gërvalla also received a phone call this afternoon from her counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs Timço Mucunski, during which concerns from the Kosovo institutions following the incident were expressed.”
