Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Gjurić has commented on Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s article in the New York Times. He called it an attempt to deceive public opinion and destabilize Western Balkans at all costs.

Gjurić stated today that Prime Minister Albin Kurti, in this article, has tried to present Belgrade as a destabilizing factor in the Western Balkans, even though the truth is “exactly the opposite.”

Through a social media post, Gjurić announced that he will inform representatives of more than 30 countries in detail about everything to be discussed at the upcoming NATO summit in Washington, “to explain once again that Serbia’s current history is a success story.”

“His article in the New York Times is a futile attempt to demonize Serbia by playing on old prejudices and portraying it as a destabilizing factor in the Western Balkans. The truth is exactly the opposite – Serbia is a pillar of peace and regional stability, a constructive international factor, and a reliable interlocutor,” Gjurić said.

Political leaders from Pristina, Gjurić added, led by Kurti, are the opposite of this.

“Their campaign to deprive the Serbian people of their rights in Kosovo, their refusal to implement the commitments made in the dialogue with Belgrade so far, and their refusal even to meet with our negotiators signal that Pristina’s true intentions are to reignite the fire of conflict in the region so that separatists can exploit such a situation to consolidate their state-building project,” Gjurić said.

Meanwhile, according to Serbian media, in this article, Prime Minister Kurti stated that opening a new front in the Balkans would suit Russia and Serbia and that the new front would enable Serbia to attempt to “occupy territory through aggression” and Russia to strengthen Serbia’s position as its “satellite,” as he puts it, alongside diverting attention from the war in Ukraine.

Kurti emphasized that NATO’s role in Kosovo is more important than ever, as, as he points out, “we are once again facing war and military threats in Europe.”
