Today, a large portion of the internet experienced disruptions, affecting global platforms. Similar issues were reported on online news outlets in Kosovo, where access and functionality were temporarily unavailable.

Cloudflare, a major pillar of internet infrastructure, released a statement clarifying that the incident was not caused by a cyberattack.

According to the company, the problems were due to an “outage at Cloudflare’s internet infrastructure giant,” which was identified earlier in the morning.

Cloudflare’s Chief Technology Officer, Dane Knecht, explained that the disruption was triggered by a “latent bug” in systems supporting bot protection, which was activated after a routine configuration change.

“This error began causing network collapses and widespread service degradation. It was not an attack,” Knecht stated, adding that the company regrets the impact on clients and is working to prevent a recurrence.

Cloudflare confirmed that a solution has been implemented and services are gradually returning to normal, although some users may still experience access difficulties.

This outage comes just weeks after a similar issue with Amazon Web Services (AWS), reigniting debates about the global dependency on a small number of technology companies. Currently, Cloudflare supports roughly 20% of all websites worldwide.
