In a powerful rebuke to Aleksandar Vučić’s authoritarian rule, the Serbian diaspora has announced coordinated protests in more than 60 cities across four continents, marking the anniversary of the deadly collapse of the Novi Sad railway station canopy — a tragedy many see as a chilling symbol of the regime’s corruption, neglect, and impunity.

What began as a moment of mourning has turned into a global indictment of Vučić’s government, accused of systematically eroding democracy, silencing the media, and covering up state failures that cost lives.

According to organizers, demonstrations will take place in over 35 European cities, including Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Nuremberg, Ulm, and Karlsruhe. Major gatherings are also set for London, Paris, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, Brussels, Vienna, Prague, Athens, and Lisbon, among others.

Across the Atlantic, rallies will unfold in Washington, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Seattle, and across Canada in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Edmonton. Protests are also planned in Doha, Qatar, and across Australia and New Zealand, including Melbourne and Auckland.

At 11:30 a.m., the protests will synchronize with the central gathering in Novi Sad, organized by the student movement that has spearheaded the fight against state repression and demanded accountability for those responsible for the canopy disaster — a case long shrouded by official silence.

The diaspora’s message is clear: Serbia’s citizens are not alone. From Belgrade to Berlin, from Novi Sad to New York, Serbs are standing up against a regime that has turned corruption into governance and propaganda into policy.

The protests are expected to highlight human rights abuses, attacks on journalists, and the climate of fear that has defined Vučić’s rule. For many in the diaspora, this is not just an act of remembrance — it’s a call to reclaim Serbia from authoritarianism and bring truth, dignity, and justice back to its people.
