The profile of U.S. Special Envoy for Special Missions, Richard Grenell, was flooded with negative comments mainly from Serbs.

This occurred after Grenell congratulated Kosovo on its Independence and expressed concern over the “grave injustice” that Hashim Thaçi, the former president of the country, remains in detention.

Many of his followers mostly Serbs used harsh language and severe insults in response to the former envoy’s post about the Balkans.

In his message, Grenell stated that it was an injustice to “the founding father of Kosovo’s statehood, President Hashim Thaçi.”

He added that Thaçi “should be in Pristina celebrating, not behind bars in The Hague.”

“I wish all my friends in #Kosovo a joyful and safe celebration on their 17th Independence Day. However, this anniversary is overshadowed by a grave injustice. The founding father of Kosovo’s statehood, President Hashim Thaçi, should be celebrating today in Pristina—not behind bars in The Hague.

Europeans have failed to act against this injustice for the past five years. And the state institutions of Kosovo have failed to take the necessary legal actions to end this injustice—due to politics.

This unjust imprisonment must end,” said Grenell.

Grenell’s post was met with disapproval from many of his Serbian followers, who began posting a wave of harsh comments, with some even using offensive language and serious insults toward the American diplomat.

Among their messages, some wrote: “Go to hell with the entire U.S. administration,” “Get lost, *cker,” “Kosovo is Serbia”…
