Google has quietly released a new app called Google AI Edge Gallery, allowing users to run AI models directly on their devices without internet access, RKS News reports.
The app gives access to a range of publicly available models from the Hugging Face platform and will soon be available for iOS as well.
Users can download and utilize models for tasks such as image generation, question answering, code writing, and more all running locally without sending data to the cloud. This provides a safer, privacy-friendly, and offline-capable alternative to cloud-based AI tools.
The app also includes a feature called “Prompt Lab”, where users can run specific AI tasks like summarization and transcription.
Google AI Edge Gallery is released under the Apache 2.0 license, allowing for free use in both commercial and non-commercial applications.
