The government has approved the bill for mandatory health insurance.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated that this decision will improve the quality of life for citizens.

“We will make other important decisions with a direct and positive impact on the lives of our citizens, without distinction. Among them is the proposal from the Ministry of Health for the review and approval of the health insurance bill. Therefore, there is no better way to start today’s agenda than with this issue, namely the review of the bill for mandatory health insurance. Our goal is to invest in health services and guarantee public health insurance to improve quality of life and ensure this through the approval of the health insurance bill,” Kurti said.

He added that “people in need will have better social protection, which helps to reduce both poverty and inequality.”

“Through the approval of this bill, which we have identified as a priority in the National Development Strategy 2030 and in the Government’s program, we are fulfilling another commitment of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo,” Kurti noted.

With this decision, Kurti emphasized that they will contribute “to maintaining and advancing health, and consequently to the well-being of all people living in Kosovo, by reducing poverty and inequalities caused by health expenditures.”

Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, called this a “fundamental step towards establishing health insurance in our country.”

“This initiative establishes the Fund for Mandatory Health Insurance of the Republic of Kosovo,” he said.

Vitia noted that for the first time, “rules will be set for the list of reimbursable medicines, which will fundamentally transform the support that the state provides to citizens, especially those suffering from diseases.”
