On the proposal of the Ministry of Finance, Labor, and Transfers, the Regulation for the procedures and criteria for the evaluation and recognition of the status and rights of individuals with paraplegia and tetraplegia was approved today. Among other things, this regulation grants individuals with permanent injuries the right to compensation, personal caregiver support, and, where applicable, coverage for decubitus ulcers on a permanent basis.

Accountability in evaluations conducted by commissions is improved through the establishment of a professional team with a contract with the Ministry, as opposed to commissions that were previously established on an ad hoc basis.

The evaluation process is simplified, allowing for faster completion and avoiding bureaucratic procedures.

Re-evaluations that previously caused paraplegic individuals to be removed from the scheme due to delays are avoided.

The regulation enables home evaluations by field teams for cases where the person cannot physically present themselves due to their condition. In cases where medical documentation is sufficient, the individual will not need to present themselves physically for evaluation.

In addition to addressing the health needs of individuals, the possibility for social adaptation will be evaluated, and support for rehabilitation and employment will be provided.

Requests, comments, and issues raised by interested parties are addressed.
