Kosovo Government Spokesperson Përparim Kryeziu has stated that Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s appearance at the Basic Court in Pristina does not represent a double standard compared to his refusal to appear at the Special Prosecution’s offices for the state reserves case. Kryeziu explained that the two cases are distinct and that Kurti has always expressed a willingness to cooperate with the authorities.
The State Reserves Case
According to Kryeziu, Kurti has not refused to testify as a witness for the state reserves case. Instead, he has requested that his interview be conducted at his office, a practice that has occurred previously. The Prime Minister’s Office has even submitted a formal request to the court to legally compel the prosecution to conduct the interview at that location. The defendants in this case are Irfan Lipovica, Hafiz Gara, and Ridvan Muharremi.
The Threats Case
Kurti appeared in court as the “injured party” in a separate case involving threats against him. In this case, Kryeziu confirmed that authorized investigators had already interviewed the prime minister at his office on June 10, 2025. The defendants, Faton Klinaku and Nuredin Selmani, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The article details the threats, including a Facebook post by Klinaku stating he would “rather kill Albin Kurti” than leave Kosovo. Klinaku has claimed the post was not a death threat and that he was responding to insults. Meanwhile, Selmani expressed regret, citing the influence of alcohol for his actions. The article notes that Kurti himself testified that he does not feel threatened or at risk.
