In the center of Bujanoc, graffiti featuring the name of war criminal Ratko Mladić has appeared. This act has sparked strong reactions, particularly from Ragmi Mustafi, a politician from the Preševo Valley, who described the incident as unacceptable and a serious threat to security and interethnic coexistence.

Mustafi, an advisor to the acting Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi, stated that the graffiti appeared publicly in the city center.

“In a city with an Albanian majority, in 2025, the public display of the name of a general convicted for the Srebrenica genocide, along with nationalist and hateful symbols, is clear evidence of the erosion of public safety and institutional impunity. In August, a billboard of Commander Lleshi, a figure beloved by Albanians in the Valley, was destroyed on the anniversary of his death. No reaction from the authorities—neither police nor institutional. Previously, graffiti calling for the killing of Albanians appeared twice near the Health Center. Again, silence. Today, we have this: ‘РАТКО МЛАДИЋ’ in red in the city center. We know this style well: nationalism, provocation, and deliberate intimidation of Albanians in their own land,” Mustafi wrote on Facebook.

“Where ‘multiethnicity’ is building a new reality. Systematic Serbianization of Bujanoc,” he added.

According to Mustafi, the Serbianization of Bujanoc is being implemented through sophisticated methods rather than open violence.

“This does not happen through overt violence, but through more sophisticated means: with letters defaming Albanians, appointments excluding Albanians, the removal of Albanian national symbols and figures, and the punishment of those who dare to speak out… unfortunately, some will realize this too late,” Mustafi wrote.
