In a parliamentary vote held in Greece, Konstantinos Tasoulas, former Speaker of the Greek Parliament, was elected as the President of the Hellenic Republic. Tasoulas secured 160 votes out of 274 lawmakers present during the election process.

Following his election, Tasoulas emphasized that the position of President is not only an honor but also comes with a significant responsibility. He highlighted the importance of social cohesion and collaboration in tackling the political and societal challenges that Greece faces.

Tasoulas noted that, despite individual disagreements, the invisible thread that unites the nation should not be broken. “This is the thread that keeps us together when mobilized for a common goal or to prevent a shared harm,” he stated in his inaugural address to the nation, as reported by Euronews.

The new President also spoke about the importance of the synergy between Greek institutions, underlining that a stable political climate and maintaining unity are essential for achieving political objectives. He also acknowledged the national challenges Greece is facing, stressing the need for enhanced national security, prosperity, civil defense, and justice.

Tasoulas emphasized the importance of strengthening Greece’s defensive and diplomatic capabilities while fostering social cohesion within the European Union. “The rhythm of the world, as we know it, does not seem to continue at the same pace. Greece must raise its international prestige, and despite individual disagreements, I believe our future will be stronger when we act together,” he concluded.
