Over the weekend, the southern coast of Crete was the focus of multiple rescue operations involving the arrival of illegal migrants. Authorities report that the total number of individuals identified and rescued over the weekend reached 800 people.
One rescue operation took place on Sunday afternoon under the coordination of the Joint Rescue Coordination Center. Frontex forces rescued 114 illegal migrants found on an inflatable boat approximately 30 nautical miles southwest of Gavdos.
The migrants are being transferred to the port of Paleochora, with weather conditions in the area reported as favorable. Later on Sunday, another boat carrying 28 illegal migrants was spotted 5 nautical miles south of Gavdos. The vessel was detected by a Frontex aircraft, and the migrants are being transported by a Frontex ship to the port of Karava in Gavdos.
